Lindsay F. Hofman, Ph.D., DABCC, CPM
Clinical Chemistry Consultant

Overview
Dr. Hofman has over 25 years experience in directing clinical chemistry laboratories and developing assays. She was the director of the congenital adrenal hyperplasia newborn screening project in the Washington State Public Health Laboratory and for 6 years was the director of the North Carolina newborn screening laboratory. She also has extensive experience with newborn screening for HIV using filter paper blood specimens.

History
Dr. Hofman graduated from Smith College (B.A., Chemistry) and received her Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of Washington. She is a diplomate of the American Board of Clinical Chemistry. She is the former Section Chief for Newborn Screening/Clinical Chemistry in the North Carolina State Laboratory in Raleigh. Prior to that she was the head of the congenital adrenal hyperplasia newborn screening project in the Washington State Public Health Laboratory. She also set up and supervised a commercial laboratory (Saliva Diagnostic Systems, Inc.) which did HIV testing on serum and saliva. After receiving her Ph.D. she was Director, Radioimmunoassay Section at the Mason Clinic in Seattle for 9 years. She has been very active in newborn screeening symposia and was Chairman of the Organizing Committee for the Ninth National Neonatal Screening Symposium held in Raleigh, N.C. in 1992. She is currently Clinical Chemistry Consultant of the laboratory in Pittsburgh. She, together with Dr. Naylor, are charter members of the International Society for Neonatal Screening.
